Roger Federer claimed a record eighth Wimbledon title at the All England Club, beating Croatian Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 in the final. It was Federer’s second Grand Slam title of the year after winning the Australian Open in January. Many people felt that The Swiss was well past his best after enduring a near 5 year barren spell in terms of Grand Slams but after claiming two this year, it seems that may not be the case. Read more
Serena Williams taking a break from tennis to have a child left many questioning who would take her place as the best in the women’s game. Serena won the Australian Open in January and then began her break and many saw a prime opportunity for someone to seize the chance to be the new dominant force in women’s tennis. Read more
The 2016/17 season once again delivered a thrilling Champions League Campaign which saw Real Madrid crowned champions for the second successive year. Beating Italian giants Juventus 4-1 in the final, Madrid and Zinedine Zidane became the first team to retain the title in the modern era.
Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show, scoring twice in the final but Juventus were pretty impressive leading up to that game. Read more
Douvan, arguably the horse of the season, leaves everything in its wake as the highest rated jumps horse in training and by some margin too. Now, Douvan didn’t really perform and meet the full expectations expected of him over the course of the season but he did outclass Gold Cup winner Sizing John in a Grade 1 Christmas meeting at Leopardstown. Cheltenham Festival fans witnessed one of the biggest upsets to date, as Special Tiara won the Queen Mother Champion Chase priced at 11/1. What made this totally amazing was that the 2/9 odds on favourite, Douvan, was never in the race from the start and finished a woeful seventh. Read more
