Southampton wait on James Ward-Prowse
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is hopeful James Ward-Prowse will overcome a nasty leg injury to play in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley.
Midfielder Ward-Prowse was left in agony after suffering a deep gash during last week’s FA Cup loss to Tottenham but has since returned to training.
Defender Kyle Walker-Peters, who joined on loan from Spurs last month, could make his Saints debut at St Mary’s.
Burnley will again be without striker Ashley Barnes (hernia) and winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring).
Right-back Matt Lowton (knee) is a major doubt so Phil Bardsley could start, while left-back Charlie Taylor (hamstring) should be fit. New signing Josh Brownhill could be involved in the matchday squad for the first time.
Out-of-favour defender Ben Gibson is training with Middlesbrough and will not be considered for the foreseeable future.
Southampton provisional squad: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Stephens, Bednarek, Bertrand, Djenepo, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg, Redmond, Ings, Long, Gunn, Vestergaard, Valery, Danso, Boufal, Romeu, Armstrong, Adams, Obafemi.
Burnley provisional squad: Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Long, Taylor, Bardsley, Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil, Wood, Rodriguez, Hart, Brady, Pieters, Lennon, Vydra, Brownhill.
