History can be made at the 2019 US Open which takes place at Pebble beach. The main focus is on two guys who will battle it out to extend their long list of achievements and move up the list of most titles won.
But they don’t make up the entire tournament, another huge favourite is last years winner Tiger Woods. It would be silly to leave out some dark horses who could definitely push for the title.
Can Tiger Roar Again
We all know that Tiger Woods has had his fair share of injuries and up until last year he was out of action. But this year he has returned with a bang having already won the Masters and Augusta National. One would think it’s crazy and nearly impossible for him to actually win the US Open as well in the same year. But crazier things have happened already in the world of sports, Woods has already won two major championships this year so how could we possibly put it pass him to win the US Open as well. More impressively Woods has never finished outside the top 20 at a US Open tournament.
His record at Pebble Beach is remarkable, he has only been beaten by three or 310 golfers in his history during the tournament. Tiger is also entering the tournament in terrific form, just two weeks ago he played magnificently at Muirfield Village. He put on a classy display in many aspects of his game such as striking the ball from tee to green and finished top 15 in the field with approach shots and strokes gained.
Bash Brothers Tough Competition
There are so many great players but in today’s game there are two that have been standing our head and shoulders above the rest. Dustin Johnson and Brook Koepka are usually workout partners but they also challenge one another to be the world number one. Johnson can return to number one if he wins his second US Open. His record at Pebble beach is seriously impressive reading two wins, two seconds, one third, one fourth, one fifth and one seventh in 12 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am starts – stands out. Johnson has the experience to pull off the win, to go with this experience he has fantastic short iron-game to win the championship.
Brook On Fire
Brook Koepka is hot property right now in the golfing world, he is a two time defending champion at the US Open and PGA Championship. For someone to win four majors during the course of their career is extremely impressive and difficult but the 29 year old has that total in under two years. He has managed to win four majors in eight starts which is quite remarkable. But the question remains whether he can continue this incredible run.
Someone who is a great contender and that is seriously over looked is Adam Scott. He has a tremendous swing and has a striker that’s hard to match. He as well has had a great year thus far, he finished second at the Memorial and tied for eighth in the tied for eighth in the PGA Championship. If he works on his putting he will surely be right up there competing for the title come Sunday.
Can It Be Horschel’s Year
Billy Horschel is ranked 39th on the official world golf ranking but that shouldn’t matter coming into the US Open. Horschel is a really great golfer all around with his only real weakness being his driving of the ball which at times can be lack luster. Should he get the chance to win the title there is no doubt that he would take it.
There are so many contenders and favourites for the US Open which makes it extremely tough to choose. This makes for an exciting tournament that could produce a lot of good to watch golf.
