The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club is just a couple of days away and already Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are being tipped as the likely winners. Spieth has a chance to become the youngest man to win all the Grand Slam events on Golf’s PGA tour and is currently one of only two men to have won three different majors at the age of 23, the other being Jack Nicklaus.
World No.4 Rory McIlroy has won two tour events at Quail Hollow Club, first in 2010 and then again in 2015, securing top 10 finishes on another four occasions. He also rewrote the course’s history books by carding an aggregate score of 21-under 267, bettering the former record by 5 strokes. Although McIlroy is on a barren run which has seen him not win a major in the last ten attempts, many feel this is the course for him to rediscover that winning touch.
The tournament will be played between August the 7th-13th and Golf PGA Tour ODDS will be display in our golf main section.
The first tee of time is scheduled for 07:20, with groups commencing every 10 minutes through until 09:20. There is already a lot of excitement around a few groups who have been paired together on the tee sheet.
The group that stands out the most is the one containing Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth. This is because these three men have won each of the season’s first three majors. Spieth is also looking to become the youngest in history to complete a career Slam. Another group to keep an eye in is the one with Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm in it.
McIlroy is desperate to end his drought on the majors circuit and having won at Quail Hollow previously, should be in with a good shout. Rickie Fowler is also a previous winner on the course.
With McIlroy and Spieth being tipped by a lot of people as the ones to watch, there are certainly a few more to keep an eye on over the course of the tournament.
Hideki Matsuyama will be aiming to deliver Japan its first major and he’s played consistently well so far in the majors this year.
World No.1 Dustin Johnson will be aiming to put his Masters disappointment to bed by rediscovering his best form at Quail Hollow.
22 year old Jon Rahm will also be one to watch as he aims to win the final major of the year. He’s currently ranked at No.6 in the world and will be looking to prove himself as a future star.
It should be a great event at Quail Hollow Club, located in North Carolina. There are plenty of golfers who feel they can win the tournament and quite a few with a point to prove. It will definitely be great to see Rory McIlroy rediscover his touch in a majors tournament but he has plenty of competition, not least from those that he’s been paired with in his group.
