Having won five of their last six appearances (and drawing the sixth), Chelsea are on impeccable form at the moment, and look to be a solid contender to fight for a 1st place finish in the Premier League this season.
Taking on Stoke City, Chelsea may view this game as an ‘easy’ match, but due to a relatively surprising start to the season, Stoke may have plans of their own!
With opening matches including opponents like Manchester United, Everton, and Arsenal, Stoke have picked up far-more points than most thought possible, and in their tougher matches, they’ve surprised even their most harsh critics. However, the ‘easy’ games are where Stoke have really failed to show up, and their 1-0 defeat over Arsenal, and their 2-2 draw against Manchester United have somewhat been scampered by the fact they failed to secure victories against some of the easier teams.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have played with pretty solid consistency, and one thing that may play to Stoke’s advantage, is the fact that Chelsea are visiting Atletico Madrid next week, which may see manager Antonio Conte resting a few of the more experienced players, this weekend, at Stoke.
However, even without fielding their best team, Chelsea look to be a force to be reckoned with, and having enjoyed a 5-1 victory over Nottingham Forrest, mid-week, they really are on some of the best form we’ve seen them in; of course, this comes right off the back of winning the Premier League last season – so there’s ever expectation that Chelsea will deliver the goods, on Saturday.
One thing that is worth pointing out, however, is the fact that they have only won three of their Premier League matches, and while their form is undeniably impressive, it’s largely the non-Premier League games that have seen Chelsea excel. Indeed, their week-one defeat to Burnley highlighted some of the champion’s main vulnerabilities, and when looking at the fact that Stoke have only lost three of their last fifteen home matches, it looks like this could be one of the most intense and competitive matches of the season, so far.
Expect an aggressive match, with scoring attempts early on – there could be great value here, with one of the most appealing bets looking something like a Draw Double Chance – a punt, that at current odds of 7/5, looks highly appealing.
