MLS Superstar moves to Premier League

Miguel Almiron, many would know the name as he took the MLS by storm. The 24-year-old played for Atlanta United in the MLS during the last two seasons.

He has caught the eye of many big clubs after an incredible season where he led Atlanta United to the MLS title. He has made a big money move to Newcastle United for £20 million which had broken the MLS transfer record for a player and club. He has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with Newcastle United where he will wear the number 24 jersey.

Almiron Lights Up MLS

The Paraguay international has played in the MLS for just two seasons but has adapted extremely well. Across the two seasons he managed to score 21 goals and got 28 assists in 62 games. He was a vital part of the Atlanta United team that won the MLS title this season scoring 13 goals and leading them to their first title in their history. He had a huge impact on the MLS and was arguably one of the best players in the league. Atlanta United have signed the South American Footballer of the Year Pity Martinez as a replacement in hopes that he can fulfil the gap left by Almiron.

Miguel Almiron Commits To Newcastle

But Miguel will be a hard act to follow, as he is a player that has established himself as someone that’s extremely versatile with a lot of vision. The player also has unbelievable pace and a very tricky left foot that often leaves defenders behind. He plays as a central attacking midfielder but was a box to box player which other players in the MLS struggled to match. Players never knew how to cope with his style of play which is what Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez hopes will happen once he debuts in the Premier League.

Will Almiron Adapt To Life In The Premier League

Newcastle United who have been struggling from financial restraints of late and issues with the club owner who wanted to sell the club have broken their transfer record to sign Almiron. That’s making a statement as the last time they broke their transfer record was for the iconic Michael Owen. The manager Benitez firmly believes in the abilities of Almiron and stated that “His impact in MLS had been really good – he has been one of the best players this year – and hopefully he can give us more competition and more quality in the final third.”

The MLS is quite different to the Premier League with it being a much tougher and psychical league where many past stars failed to adapt. But the highly rated Paraguay international is hopeful that he will adapt to the Premier League as quickly as he did to the MLS.

Based on Almiron’s performances and stats there seems to be no doubt that he will make it in the Premier League. He is still young and has many more years to learn and improve his game. He is definitely one to look out for in the future.
