Who is the best small forward in the league is a question that is frequently asked. Of course, as many would predict this list potentially consists of some of the best NBA players of all time.
Having a small forward such as the following can prove beneficial to any team. Small forwards are a vital part of any team by playing a huge role on both ends of the court. The following is a list of the top five small forwards in the NBA at the moment:
- Lebron James
Should there be any debate when it comes to the king? He is arguably the best small forward in the league but also considered one of the best players of all time. Lebron has received much stick this season after his controversial move to the Los Angeles Lakers. Many had said there isn’t enough talent in the Lakers team to help; him win a championship but he is proving many critics wrong. Despite a relatively young team Lebron has lifted this team and they are doing quite well this season. He has continued to defy the logic of many, while most players careers begin to decline once they are in their mid-30’s Lebron has continued to play like he hasn’t aged. He currently is still one of the top picks to win the MVP award this season.
- Kevin Durant
No matter how people may brand him for his move to the Golden State Warriors he is still one of the best small forwards to have graced the game. The 2014 league MVP is coming off back-to-back championships with Golden State and seems on track to possibly win a third in a row this season. He also managed to win two finals MVP awards proving he is undoubtedly one of the best of all time. Some say he is not far behind Lebron and would they be wrong in saying so?
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
Antetokounmpo has become a serious force to be reckoned with this season. Since he was a rookie he has was labelled as the next Lebron. This season he has taken his talent to a new level, he has been terrifying teams. He is known as the Greek Freak to many and we definitely see why. All he lacked before this season was a jumper, but he seems to have worked on it in the off season because he has developed a decent jumper. He has begun to shoot more 3’s and appears to be more comfortable. Who knows what the future holds for the Greek Freak who is surely going to be a future MVP.
- Kawhi Leonard
If not for the amount of injuries he has suffered throughout his career Kawhi could possibly have been one of the best of all time. He was forced to make a controversial move to the Raptors but is has since relished the move. Kawhi is still considered as a future legend of the game. In spite of his injuries he managed to win two Defensive Player of the year awards. This seems an impossible feat for a non-big player to achieve.
- Paul George
George surprised many before this season started when he opted to not join Lebron in LA. Instead he decided to sign a new long-term contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. George has made a strong start to the season and is surely going to make the all-star team. He is a productive two-way player who has become a huge player for OKC. He is pushing the OKC to re-join the Western Conference’s elite with performances of late. Many underrate him, but he is one of the most skilled small forwards there is.
This list without a doubt is the top five small forwards in not only the league at the moment but for the last few years. Small forward remains the strongest position because it offers the best players in the NBA.
