The Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks Eastern Conference Final came to an incredible end on Saturday night.
The Raptors made history while the Bucks will be wondering about what could’ve been. This was a battle between the two best teams in the East which is clear why we were treated to such an incredible series.
Raptors Make History
The Raptors made history by becoming the first Canadian basketball team to make the NBA Championship Final. Most never thought this would happen due to the fact that when the 7 game series started they lost the first two games and the Bucks hadn’t lost two games or more in a row all season. But in true Raptors fashion they fought back and won the next four games. Game six proved the decisive one where the Raptors rallied back from being nearly 15 points behind all game to win 100-94 and seal the series 4-2.
Great Team Performance
It was a team performance as nearly all starters reached double figures in points on the night. Kawhi Leonard achieved the highest points yet again with 27 and had a game high 17 rebounds. He was well complimented by the likes of Kyle Lowry who scored 17 points and had 8 assists despite having a sprained thumb. Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet also contributed with 18 and 14 points respectively.
Klaw Kawhi Leonard
This was an absolutely marvelous achievement for Toronto as this was only their second ever Eastern Conference Finals appearance. The other occurred in 2016 when they stole the first two games from Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. But who was really the key behind all the Raptors success? Everyone can agree that it’s the Klaw Kawhi Leonard. Come the start of the regular season there was a lot of controversy surrounding the trade for Kawhi and Demar DeRozan going the other way. But it’s proven to be the best move they could ever have made. Many are now saying just one season in to the Klaw’s Raptors career that he is their best ever player. He has managed to not just uplift his team but also an entire nation.
Toronto’s In A Tough Situation
The Toronto Raptors will have to be very wary that if they wish to maintain this success for the future they need to hold onto the man that’s behind all of it. Leonard will become a free agent in the off season and with his injuries not affecting him and his form being excellent, nearly every team in the NBA will want him.
Golden State Warriors
But this is the least of their worries, their main concentration now needs to be beating a Golden State Warriors team that’s in terrific form. They recently ended the Western Conference Finals with a white washing of a Portland Trail Blazers team that seemed like they would be very tough to beat. They will start the Finals at home on Thursday and they’ll have to make the most of their home games if they are to have any chance of winning the championship.
This seems to be a Raptors team for the ages, they’ve already gone down in history and all that needs to be done now is to win the Championship. With the likes of Lowry, Siakam and Leonard anything is possible.
