Without a doubt this year’s trade deadline was one of the biggest with many headlines being made with some controversial trades. From all the hype around one of the biggest names in the NBA the star remained with his current team, to some rather surprising trades.
We all might have thought that all the peaks of the trades had come and gone already but that was not the case. Many predicted a quiet 2019 NBA trade deadline but within the last few days things have certainly heated up which has left many with questions.
Gasol Moves To Toronto
Arguably one of the biggest trade shocks of the deadline is the trade of Marc Gasol. As many know he is an incredible center but also all-rounder. There are many aspects to his game that most other centers in the league don’t have which is why fans are blown away by the fact that the Grizzlies traded him for what many believe to be not suitable replacements. There had been a lot of rumours surrounding Gasol and a trade to the Charlotte Hornets but in a shocking deadline trade he made the move to the Toronto Raptors. In return the Grizzlies received C Jonas Valanciunas, G Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2024 second round pick.
Are The Lakers Wasting A Lebron Year?
Heading into the trade deadline the Lakers had a big decision to make that was quite simple. Either acquire the services of Anthony Davis or their season would be a waste and they failed to acquire Davis. They have struggled this season with their youngsters not proving enough to support Lebron. The Lakers chances of making the playoffs are extremely slim as they continue to struggle and will continue to struggle until they make some big moves for even bigger stars.
The players they have managed to gain are Reggie Bullock and Mike Muscala which should help but doesn’t seem like it will prove enough. At the end of the day it seems like Lebron’s first season with the Lakers will end in misery and at his age he can’t afford to not be making the playoffs if he wishes to cement his place as the greatest of all time.
Fultz Finally Moves On
For months there has been much speculation around the future of Markelle Fultz with the 76ers looking to trade him. He was an exciting prospect but has accumulated many injuries which have hampered his career. He has made the move to the Orlando Magic and in return the 76ers received F Jonathon Simmons, Protected 2019 first round pick and a 2019 second round pick. Should Fultz overcome most of his injuries, the Magic will prove to have benefited more from this deal.
The race for the Playoffs and the title has heated up after some big trades. Some teams are looking a lot stronger and could profit while some could suffer even more. This trade deadline has been a big one and lets hope for more exciting trades in the future if they are to the right teams.
