The NFL began last night in a not so entertaining fashion, many fans were pegged disappointed in a low scoring game. Although there is hope for the opening weekend to be salvaged with some cracking games to be played.
The bright side of all of this is that the NFL is back and so we finally have something to look forward to again every week.
Panthers vs Rams
On Sunday the clash between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams kick-off in what has promised to be a very exciting game. The Panthers will have the tough task of trying to beat the 2018 NFC champions but it also serves as a great opportunity for them to show they are ready for anyone this season.
The Panthers Offence
The Panthers will be hoping for a much better season this time out after they missed another trip into the postseason. They went on a horrific run which consisted of seven losses. And the face of the franchise Cam Newton suffered a shoulder injury; which resulted in the second half their season going from bad to worse. The Panthers strongpoint is their offence and it will need to be on top form with the Rams defence being incredibly strong. The main reason for this is Aaron Donald who is a player capable of becoming an MVP. He is already a 5x Pro Bowler and finished his 2018 season with an impressive 20.5 sacks. To top it off the Rams have also extended the contract of the lethal Jared Goff. The Panthers record against the Rams is 13-8 which isn’t something to write home about.
Patriots vs Steelers
The NFL matchup between the New England Patriots and Pittsburg Steelers is arguably the most exciting game of the opening week schedule. More often than not the Patriots have gotten the better of the Steelers. But in 2018 the Steelers did get the upper hand over them. The big question is whether they can do it again. The Steelers are a much better outfit this time around as they have strengthened their side defensively.
They also dominated the Patriots with their run game which they’ll have to execute again. The game is going to be on “banner night” and Tom Brady’s record on banner night is 4-1 which makes things tough for the Steelers. The defending champions Patriots will also look to set the tone for the rest of their season and defend their title. They will try to one up the Steelers who are now tied with them on six Super-Bowl titles.
Titans vs Browns
No team has received more hype for the upcoming season than the Cleveland Browns. They have added two exciting talents in Odell Beckham and Olivier Vernon. The pair join the already big stars in Baker Mayfield and Myles Garrett. Something to count on for the Tennessee Titans is that the Browns have not won an opening game since 1999. The Browns have a new coach and new talent which does make them the favourites. The Titans are beatable opponents which means that the Browns could finally overturn their slump in opening games.
There is surely going to be some upsets during this opening week. But what we can all count on is exciting action and the NFL’s long-awaited return.
